The Resort — Kanaloa at Kona
Kanaloa at Kona sits directly on the Pacific Ocean with stunning views, 3 pools, tennis & pickleball courts, and direct access to the lava coastline.
🏊 Oceanfront Pool — Our favorite. Large deck with covered and uncovered seating overlooking the Pacific. Complex BBQs available here.
🤫 Quiet Pool — On the west side of the tennis courts; perfect for peaceful lounging away from the crowds.
👨👩👧 Family Pool & Clubhouse — On the east side of the tennis courts; best for families. The Clubhouse has ping pong, books, indoor seating, and a bookable bar area for events.
🎾 Tennis & Pickleball Courts — First come, first served. Currently set for tennis with pickleball lines painted; one court will be converted to 4 dedicated pickleball courts in the future.
⛳ Kona Country Club Golf Course — Our condo backs onto the 12th hole (open to the public at reasonable prices). Early-morning and sunset walks on the course are popular when no golfers are present. A walk north along the 12th hole leads to the Keauhou Surf & Racquet Club and a secluded beach beyond.

Best Beaches
The Big Island is the youngest Hawaiian island — much of the coastline is volcanic rock, but the beaches here are spectacular and worth the short drive.
Closest · Walking Distance
🪨 Pebble Beach at Kanaloa — A unique white & black pebble-stone beach just south of the resort. Walk the lava path south, or exit by road and look for the sign ~100 yards east on the right.
🤫 Secret Beach (15–20 min walk north) — Small, secluded beach just north of the Keauhou Surf & Racquet Club. Shallow reef-protected pools, ideal for little ones. Walk north along the lava path; no parking.
⭐ Mike & Natalie's Favorite
🤫 Ke'Ei Beach — Our personal favorite secret beach on the island. A stunning, secluded cove with crystal-clear water, great snorkeling, and almost always uncrowded. Worth the drive.
Within a Short Drive
🤿 Kahalu'u Beach Park (~10 min) — Excellent snorkeling with BBQ pits, picnic tables, and parking ($12/day or free street parking on Ali'i Dr). Mellow waves on the north side; surfboard rentals from Kona Mike's van.
🏄 Magic Sands Beach — Small but beautiful white-sand beach; great for boogie boarding and volleyball (lifeguard on duty). The sand disappears in winter high surf and returns gradually.
🏖️ Kua Bay (Maniniʻowali Beach) (~20 min north) — One of the most stunning white-sand beaches on the island; crystal-clear turquoise water, great swimming and snorkeling. Go early on weekends. Facilities available.
🌊 Kekaha Kai (Kona Coast) State Beach — Beautiful, uncrowded white-sand beach north of the airport. High-clearance vehicle recommended, or park near the highway and walk ~2 miles through lava fields.
⭐ Hapuna Beach (~1 hr north) — Probably the nicest beach on the island; wide white sand and calm waters. Worth it if heading toward Waimea or Hilo.
🏨 Mauna Kea Resort Beach (~45 min north) — Picturesque beach at the iconic Mauna Kea Resort (the first hotel on the Big Island, built by the Rockefellers). Stay for a meal at the resort.
